Vanessa Griffen grew up in Suva, Fiji. Her short stories have been read in schools in Fiji for a number of years. Her collection of all her early short stories includes those published in Mana, A South Pacific journal of Language and Literature and in Waka/ Roots (Fiji). Her stories appear in several anthologies of Fiji and Pacific writing, including Lali (ed. Albert Wendt, Longman Paul, New Zealand), The Faber Book of Contemporary South Pacific Stories and Trapped, A Collection of Writing from Fiji.
